Role summary
Aman Eye Hospital is seeking a versatile, highly motivated, and experienced Ophthalmic Technician to join our clinical support team. The successful candidate will work closely alongside Ophthalmologists and Optometrists, providing high-quality technical assistance across primary refractive services, ocular emergency care, operating room assistance, spectacle fitting, and ophthalmic diagnostic evaluations.
Duties and responsibilities
Refraction & Preliminary Examinations: Perform preliminary visual acuity assessments and basic refraction for both pediatric and adult patients. Prepare patients for clinical examinations by gathering medical history and baseline vision data. Ocular Emergency & IOP Management: Provide immediate technical support in the Ocular Emergency Department. Accurately measure, monitor, and record Intraocular Pressure (IOP) using standardized tonometry equipment and manage patient flow in urgent care settings. Operating Room (OR) Assistance: Serve as a surgical assistant to Ophthalmologists in the Operating Room. Prepare surgical instruments, maintain sterile fields, and manage pre-operative and post-operative patient care. Spectacle Diagnosis & Fitting: Demonstrate expert proficiency in spectacle frame selection, lens verification, optical alignment, and precise eyeglass fitting according to clinical prescriptions. Diagnostic Machinery Operation: Proficiently operate and assist with modern ophthalmic diagnostic equipment, including Autorefractometer, Biometry, Pachymetry, and other diagnostic machines. Clinical & Physician Assistance: Provide direct clinical assistance to Ophthalmologists and Optometrists, ensuring efficient workflow, patient documentation, and optimal quality of care.
Job requirements
Education & Training: Diploma or Degree in Ophthalmic Technology, Nursing, or a related allied health discipline from a recognized institution. Clinical Experience: Minimum 1–3 years of clinical experience in an eye hospital or specialized ophthalmic practice. Technical Competencies: Proficiency in pediatric/adult refraction, tonometry (IOP measurement), eyeglass fitting, surgical room assisting, and diagnostic equipment operation. Clinical Support Experience: Proven experience serving as an assistant to Ophthalmologists and Optometrists in a high-volume clinical environment. Professional Ethics & Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, compassionate patient handling, exceptional attention to detail, and ability to work effectively under pressure.
