Role summary Confidential Hospital is a newly established private tertiary care hospital currently being developed in Kabul, Afghanistan. The hospital is designed to provide comprehensive, high-quality medical and surgical services supported by modern infrastructure, advanced medical technology, and internationally recognized standards of patient care. As part of its phased development, the hospital is establishing a comprehensive Neurosciences Program that will integrate Neurology, Neurosurgery, Neurocritical Care, Advanced Neuroimaging, Rehabilitation Medicine, and related specialties. The vision is to develop one of Afghanistan's most capable and comprehensive centers for neurosciences, providing patients with access to advanced diagnosis, treatment, and multidisciplinary care under one roof. To support this vision, the hospital is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Consultant Neurologist who is passionate about clinical excellence and interested in helping build a leading neurology service from the ground up. Position Summary The Consultant Neurologist will provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient neurological care for adult patients with disorders of the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, muscles, and neuromuscular junction. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with neurosugens and other physicians across multiple specialties to ensure timely diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management of neurological diseases. Duties and responsibilities Clinical Responsibilities Diagnose and manage a broad spectrum of neurological disorders, including: Stroke and transient ischemic attack (TIA) Epilepsy and seizure disorders Headache and migraine disorders Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders Multiple sclerosis Peripheral neuropathies Dementia and cognitive disorders Neuromuscular diseases Vertigo and balance disorders Neuroinfectious diseases Sleep-related neurological disorders Perform comprehensive neurological examinations and formulate evidence-based treatment plans. Provide outpatient consultations and inpatient neurological care. Participate in the emergency assessment and management of acute neurological conditions. Collaborate closely with Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Neurosurgery, Intensive Care, Radiology, Psychiatry, Rehabilitation Medicine, Oncology, and other specialties. Interpret neurological investigations including MRI, CT, EEG, EMG/NCS, lumbar puncture findings, and relevant laboratory investigations. Perform procedures within the scope of neurological practice where appropriately trained. Ensure continuity of care through appropriate follow-up and long-term disease management. Quality and Patient Safety Practice according to internationally recognized clinical guidelines. Maintain accurate, complete, and timely medical documentation. Participate in clinical audits, morbidity and mortality reviews, and quality improvement initiatives. Promote patient safety and evidence-based clinical practice. Teaching and Professional Development Mentor junior physicians, interns, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals. Participate in Continuing Medical Education (CME), departmental teaching sessions, and clinical conferences. Assist in developing departmental protocols and clinical pathways. Leadership and Service Development Contribute to the continued growth and development of neurology services. Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions. Support the introduction of new neurological services and clinical programs. Foster a collaborative and professional working environment. Job requirements Qualifications Required Medical degree (MD or equivalent) from a recognized institution. Completion of an accredited Neurology residency or specialist training program. Board certification or equivalent specialist qualification in Neurology. Eligible for specialist medical registration and licensure in Afghanistan. Minimum of three (3) years of independent specialist or consultant experience is preferred. Preferred Fellowship training in Stroke, Epilepsy, Neurophysiology, Movement Disorders, Multiple Sclerosis, or another neurology subspecialty. Experience working in tertiary care hospitals. International clinical experience is highly desirable. Experience participating in the development or expansion of neurology services. Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams. Strong organizational and documentation skills. Commitment to continuous professional development. Fluency in English is preferred.
