THIRD COUNTRY NATIONAL PROJECT MANAGER – AFGHANISTAN

Role summary The Project Manager will be responsible for the effective management and delivery of a designated GSS security contract in Afghanistan. The successful candidate will act as the principal GSS focal point for the client and will ensure contractual compliance, operational effectiveness, personnel management and the highest standards of client support. The position requires an experienced security professional capable of managing multinational security personnel in a complex, high-threat and austere operating environment. Duties and responsibilities The successful candidate will be responsible for: Maintaining close liaison with the client and ensuring that all contractual requirements, performance standards and client expectations are met. Managing the operational, logistical and administrative activities of all GSS personnel assigned to the project. Ensuring effective guard-force deployment, duty rostering, leave coordination and uninterrupted operational coverage. Managing the performance, conduct, discipline, welfare, morale and safety of project personnel. Providing leadership and guidance to supervisors, international personnel and local national security staff. Coordinating personnel training and maintaining all required individual and collective training records. Ensuring that personnel are properly equipped, clothed, accommodated and supported. Preparing accurate and timely operational, contractual and client reports. Implementing the relevant requirements of the GSS Security Operations Management System. Maintaining current emergency, contingency, evacuation and medical evacuation plans. Implementing appropriate fire, safety and emergency-response standards across project locations. Ensuring the efficient use of vehicles, communications equipment, technology and other operational resources. Identifying opportunities for operational improvement and enhancing the reputation of GSS. Supporting additional operational and management duties as required. Job requirements Applicants must have: A minimum of five years’ field-based experience in complex, high-threat or austere environments within a commercial security setting. At least two years’ management experience with a Private Security Company , preferably as a Project Manager, Site Manager, Operations Manager or in an equivalent position. Proven experience managing multinational teams consisting of international and local personnel. Demonstrated experience in contract delivery, client liaison, guard-force management and operational reporting. Strong leadership, interpersonal and personnel-management skills. The confidence and ability to communicate professionally with senior client representatives. Experience working in a multilingual and multinational environment. Strong computer literacy, including spreadsheets, word-processing, email and electronic messaging systems. A sound understanding of commercial security operations and the factors that drive successful contract performance. Excellent written and spoken English. Preferred Requirements Preference may be given to candidates who possess: Previous operational experience in Afghanistan or a comparable high-risk environment. Recognised security-management or risk-management qualifications. First-aid, fire-safety, emergency-management or training qualifications. Experience supporting United Nations, diplomatic, humanitarian or international-development clients. Knowledge of quality assurance, compliance systems and security operations management systems.
