Role summary
The primary objective of the Social and Behavior Change (SBC) Consultant is to design, implement, monitor, and evaluate behavior change campaigns that address key social issues and drive positive changes within the target population. The SBC Consultant will collaborate with the project managers and teams across the organization to formulate and implement tailored SBC strategies in a variety of geographic and thematic areas. This role provides technical expertise in the design, execution, monitoring, and evaluation of SBC strategies. The Consultant will help with the development of research initiatives and monitoring behavior change outcomes, which include designing research protocols and integrating global and regional best practices. The SBC Consultant will work with colleagues, partners, and donors at the national and provincial levels.
Duties and responsibilities
SBC Strategy Analysis and Design Conduct a comprehensive assessment of the target population's social norms, attitudes, and behaviors to inform the development of effective behavior change strategies. Design evidence-based behavior change interventions and communication strategies that are culturally relevant, sensitive to local contexts, and tailored to the needs of the target audience. Apply human-centered design (HCD) principles to co-create SBC interventions with communities and target audiences. Content Development and Capacity Building Provide technical assistance and capacity building support to local staff and partners to enhance their knowledge and skills in social and behavior change communication. Support the development of engaging, behavior change-oriented content for multi-channel communication strategies, including audience segmentation, message development, and media utilization. Stay abreast of the latest trends, innovations, and best practices in social and behavior change communication to inform program design and implementation. Stakeholder Coordination Collaborate with key stakeholders, including government agencies, community leaders, NGOs, and local partners, to ensure the successful implementation of behavior change campaigns. Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning (MERL) Develop monitoring and evaluation frameworks to track the progress and impact of behavior change interventions and make data-driven recommendations for continuous improvement. Manage social research, including quantitative, qualitative, and participatory methods for formative assessments, identifying behavioral drivers, and tracking and evaluating social change.
Job requirements
Qualifications and Experience Master's degree in communication, social sciences, public health, or a related field. At least 5 years of experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating behavior change interventions in a developing country context. Proven expertise in social and behavior change communication strategies, including audience segmentation, message development, and media utilization. Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data and research findings into actionable insights for behavior change programming. Skills and Competencies Demonstrated expertise in the application of social and behavior change science, theories, research, and analysis to all stages of the program cycle. Demonstrated ability to stay current with new developments in the SBC field; familiarity with new and emerging approaches such as behavioral insights, human-centered design (HCD), and social listening is required. Strong understanding of best practices in SBC and how they align with various donor approaches. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and teams. Demonstrated experience working with a multicultural team and creating a collaborative, empowering environment. Ability to set tasks and work independently to achieve goals and targets. Fluency in English, Dari, and Pashto languages.
