Civil Engineer & Structural Designer

Role summary Sunlight is seeking a qualified and motivated Civil Engineer & Structural Designer to support the engineering, design, and implementation of renewable energy and infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will primarily be responsible for the structural analysis and design of solar photovoltaic (PV) mounting systems and supporting civil engineering works, ensuring compliance with international design standards, project specifications, and local site conditions. The role requires expertise in structural engineering, civil design, and engineering software, with the ability to develop practical, safe, and cost-effective solutions for rooftop, ground-mounted, and special-purpose solar PV systems. Duties and responsibilities The Civil Engineer & Structural Designer will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following: Design and analyze steel and aluminum support structures for rooftop, ground-mounted, and carport solar PV systems. Perform structural calculations for PV mounting systems considering dead, live, wind, snow, and seismic loads in accordance with applicable international codes and standards. Design reinforced concrete foundations, pedestals, retaining structures, equipment pads, and other civil works related to renewable energy projects. Conduct structural assessments of existing buildings and rooftops to determine their suitability for solar PV installations. Prepare structural design reports, calculation packages, and engineering documentation for project approvals. Develop detailed engineering drawings, shop drawings, fabrication drawings, and construction details using AutoCAD and other design software. Perform finite element analysis (FEA) and structural modeling for complex structures. Review manufacturer data, technical specifications, and engineering drawings to ensure compatibility with project requirements. Coordinate with electrical, mechanical, procurement, and project teams during project design and execution. Participate in site surveys, structural inspections, and condition assessments. Provide engineering support during construction, installation, testing, and commissioning. Review contractor/supplier's shop drawings and provide technical comments where required. Ensure designs comply with relevant international standards, including ASCE, ACI, AISC, Eurocodes, IBC, and other applicable design codes. Optimize structural designs to improve constructability, material efficiency, and project cost-effectiveness. Prepare Bills of Quantities (BoQs), material take-offs, and technical specifications for civil and structural components. Support technical proposal preparation, tender submissions, and engineering studies. Assist in troubleshooting structural issues encountered during construction and operation. Maintain proper documentation and engineering records throughout the project lifecycle. Perform other engineering duties as assigned by management. Job requirements Education Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (Master's degree in Structural Engineering is an advantage). Experience Minimum 5 years of professional experience in civil and structural engineering. Demonstrated experience in structural design of solar PV mounting systems is highly preferred. Experience in the design of steel structures, reinforced concrete structures, industrial facilities, and infrastructure projects. Experience preparing structural calculations, construction drawings, and technical reports. Experience working on international donor-funded or renewable energy projects is an asset. Technical Skills Strong knowledge of structural analysis and design principles. Thorough understanding of international structural design standards and building codes. Experience in steel, reinforced concrete, aluminum, and foundation design. Ability to perform wind load, seismic load, and structural stability analyses. Familiarity with geotechnical considerations affecting foundation design. Knowledge of construction methods and fabrication practices. Software Proficiency The candidate must have strong working knowledge of the following engineering software: AutoCAD STAAD Pro SAP2000 SAFE ETABS IDEA StatiCa Autodesk Civil 3D (preferred) Revit Structure (preferred) Tekla Structures (preferred) SketchUp (preferred) Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) PDF editing and document management software Experience with additional structural analysis and finite element software will be considered an advantage.
