Construction Manager (Substation/Transmission Line Projects)

Role summary The Site Manager will be responsible for the overall supervision and coordination of site activities associated with substation construction and overhead transmission line projects. The role requires close management of contractors, subcontractors, and site teams to ensure that all construction and installation works are executed in accordance with approved drawings, technical specifications, HSE requirements, quality standards, and the approved project schedule. The Site Manager will serve as the primary point of coordination at the project site, working closely with the project management team, engineers, consultants, contractors, and other relevant stakeholders. Key responsibilities include monitoring construction progress, addressing technical and operational challenges, ensuring quality and safety compliance, coordinating daily site activities, and providing accurate progress and site reports to management. The position requires strong technical expertise in power transmission and substation projects, proven site management experience, effective leadership and coordination skills, and the ability to manage construction activities efficiently in a demanding project environment. Duties and responsibilities Key Responsibilities • Lead and Supervise Site Operations: Utilize extensive site experience to lead, control, and supervise all site teams, ensuring that daily activities are carried out efficiently and in accordance with the approved project schedule. • Optimize Workforce and Machinery Utilization: Effectively manage manpower, machinery, and other site resources to maximize productivity, ensure efficient utilization, and minimize downtime. • Strengthen Teamwork and Communication: Promote a collaborative and team-oriented working environment through continuous communication with quality controls, technicians, and workers to maintain smooth workflow and achieve timely completion of activities. • Coordinate Closely with the Project Manager: Maintain regular communication with the Office Project Manager and provide timely updates regarding site progress, challenges, material requirements, potential risks, and matters requiring immediate action. • Control Materials, Tools, and Equipment: Supervise the use and management of materials, tools, equipment, and subcontractor activities at site to ensure proper utilization, minimize wastage, and maintain effective accountability. • Forecast Material Requirements: Review upcoming activities and identify material requirements in advance, providing accurate forecasts to the Office Project Manager to prevent material shortages and potential delays. • Monitor Progress and Schedule Performance: Regularly assess actual site progress against the approved project schedule, identify deviations, and implement appropriate corrective actions to maintain project progress. • Ensure Quality and Safety Standards: Supervise site activities to ensure that all works comply with approved technical specifications, quality requirements, safety procedures, and applicable standards. • Resolve Site Issues and Challenges: Proactively identify potential technical and operational problems at site and implement timely corrective measures to minimize delays, disruptions, and rework. • Coordinate Inspections and Approvals: Organize and facilitate required inspections, testing activities, and approvals in coordination with consultants, utility authorities, quality teams, and other relevant stakeholders. • Maintain Accurate Site Records: Prepare and maintain daily progress reports, site diaries, material consumption records, and other required site documentation, ensuring that all records are complete, accurate, and up to date. • Support Testing and Commissioning: Provide effective support to technical teams during testing, energization, and commissioning activities to facilitate the successful completion and handover of the project. • Maintain Site Discipline and Productivity: Ensure that all site personnel comply with company policies, safety requirements, site procedures, and professional standards while maintaining a productive working environment. • Manage Project Planning and Execution: Oversee the planning, scheduling, coordination, and execution of project activities to ensure efficient and timely delivery. • Conduct Team Meetings and Maintain Communication: Organize regular site and team meetings to review progress, address challenges, and ensure effective internal communication and coordination. • Ensure Effective Resource Allocation: Ensure the appropriate and efficient allocation of manpower, machinery, materials, and other required resources in line with project requirements. • Control Operational Costs: Manage operational budgets, monitor expenditures, and implement effective cost-control measures to ensure efficient use of project resources. • Ensure Safety and Environmental Compliance: Enforce strict compliance with applicable safety regulations, environmental requirements, and established HSE standards throughout project execution. Job requirements Important Requirement: This position is open to candidates with proven Site Management experience in Transmission Line and/or Substation projects. Candidates without relevant hands-on experience will not be considered. Qualifications & Experience • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering/Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution (Master's degree is preferred). • Total Experience, 7 years, Experience in similar work 5 years. • Strong knowledge of IEC/IEEE standards, international quality standards. • Excellent documentation, reporting, and communication skills.
