Role summary
The Workover Supervisor is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising all workover, well intervention, and well maintenance activities to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations. The position provides direct field leadership, ensuring compliance with Company standards, HSE requirements, approved work programs, and industry best practices while maintaining well integrity throughout all phases of operations. The Workover Supervisor acts as the Company's on-site representative, coordinating contractors, service companies, and operational personnel to achieve project objectives while maintaining the highest standards of safety, operational excellence, and asset integrity.
Duties and responsibilities
Key responsibilities include: • Plan, coordinate, supervise, and execute workover and well intervention operations in accordance with approved programs. • Ensure full compliance with Company HSE policies, API standards, and applicable industry regulations. • Supervise all contractor and service company personnel during field operations. • Review work programs, procedures, risk assessments, and operational documentation before execution. • Monitor daily operational performance and optimize efficiency while minimizing Non-Productive Time (NPT). • Conduct pre-job meetings, toolbox talks, Job Safety Analysis (JSA), and risk assessments. • Verify proper implementation of Permit-to-Work (PTW) procedures and safe work practices. • Ensure well control standards and well barrier integrity are maintained throughout all operations. • Supervise well killing, completion repair, fishing, milling, plug setting, and other well intervention activities as required. • Ensure workover equipment, pressure control equipment, and BOP systems are properly inspected, tested, and maintained. • Coordinate daily activities with Operations, Engineering, Production, Logistics, HSE, and contractor teams. • Monitor operational costs and promote efficient utilization of personnel, equipment, and materials. • Prepare accurate daily operational reports, incident reports, and end-of-well documentation. • Participate in incident investigations, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions. • Exercise Stop Work Authority whenever unsafe conditions are identified. • Mentor and develop field personnel while promoting a strong safety culture. • Perform any other duties assigned by Company Management.
Job requirements
Education: • Bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Certifications (Preferred / Required) • Valid IWCF / IADC Well Control Certificate (Supervisor Level). • H₂S Safety Certificate. • First Aid / CPR Certificate. Any additional workover-related technical certifications will be considered an advantage. Work Experience: · Minimum 8 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. · Minimum 3 years of proven experience as a Workover Supervisor or in a similar supervisory position. · Extensive experience supervising workover rigs and well intervention operations. · Experience with well killing, fishing, completion repair, plug setting, and production restoration. · Experience working with international drilling or oilfield service companies is highly desirable. · Experience in remote and challenging operational environments. · Experience with HPHT and H₂S wells will be considered an advantage. Previous international project experience is preferred. Key Technical Skills · Strong knowledge of workover and well intervention operations. · Well control principles and well barrier management. · Workover rig equipment, pressure control equipment, and associated systems. · Well completion, production, and artificial lift systems. · Fishing, milling, plug setting, completion repair, and remedial operations. · Well killing methods and pressure control techniques. · Risk assessment and Permit-to-Work systems. · Operational planning, execution, and reporting. · Incident investigation and Root Cause Analysis. · Strong understanding of API Standards and international HSE requirements. Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and operational reporting systems. Languages: · English – Upper-Intermediate to Fluent (spoken and written) is mandatory. · Russian – Preferred. · Dari and/or Pashto Fluent Knowledge of any additional regional languages will be considered a plus. Personal Qualities: · Strong leadership and supervisory skills. · Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. · Sound decision-making and problem-solving skills. · Ability to work effectively under pressure in remote operational environments. · Strong planning, organizational, and reporting skills. · High level of accountability, integrity, and commitment to HSE. · Ability to work independently and lead multicultural teams. · Flexible, proactive, and committed to continuous improvement.
