Role summary
Sunlight is seeking motivated and dedicated Female Solar PV Operation & Maintenance (O&M) Technicians to join our growing renewable energy team. The successful candidates will be responsible for supporting the operation, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and performance monitoring of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems installed at various facilities across Afghanistan. This role offers an excellent opportunity for women with technical backgrounds in electrical or renewable energy disciplines to build practical experience in the renewable energy sector through structured training , field mentoring, and hands-on work. Technicians will contribute to maintaining reliable solar energy systems while promoting safe work practices, environmental responsibility, and community awareness.
Duties and responsibilities
Solar PV Operation & Maintenance Perform routine preventive maintenance of solar PV systems according to maintenance schedules. Conduct site inspections of PV modules, mounting structures, electrical wiring, batteries, inverters, protection devices, and monitoring equipment. Supervise cleaning PV modules and ensure systems operate efficiently. Monitor system performance and identify abnormalities or performance losses. Carry out corrective maintenance, fault diagnosis, troubleshooting, and repair of defective system components. Assist in testing and commissioning of repaired or replaced equipment. Verify grounding systems and electrical safety of installations. Inspection & Reporting Conduct technical site assessments and inspections. Record maintenance activities using standard inspection forms and checklists. Prepare maintenance reports, photographs, sketches, and technical documentation. Report equipment faults, safety concerns, and maintenance requirements. Maintain accurate records of spare parts utilized during maintenance activities. Safety & Compliance Follow Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) procedures at all times. Properly use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Comply with electrical safety standards during field operations. Identify and report environmental or safety risks. Support safe handling and disposal of damaged electrical and electronic equipment. Repair & Component Management Assist in repairing and replacing solar PV components, including batteries, inverters, electrical protection devices, and monitoring equipment. Support inspection and assessment of defective components for repair or refurbishment. Participate in environmentally responsible recycling and waste management practices. Community Support & Awareness Support user orientation on proper operation of solar PV systems. Promote energy efficiency and proper load management practices. Provide basic technical guidance to facility personnel on routine system operation. Encourage safe operation and responsible use of renewable energy systems. Professional Development Participate in technical training, mentoring, and continuous professional development activities. Stay updated on renewable energy technologies and industry best practices. Work collaboratively with engineers, supervisors, and fellow technicians.
Job requirements
Diploma, vocational certificate, or bachelor's degree in Renewable Energy, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Energy Systems, or a related technical field. At least one (1) year of experience or practical exposure in solar PV systems, electrical installations, renewable energy, or related technical work ( Fresh graduates with relevant internships or vocational training are encouraged to apply. Additionally, A 2-month training program will be provided by the company to support the successful candidate's professional development ). Basic knowledge of solar PV systems, electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, and safe work practices. Ability to prepare technical reports and use basic computer applications. Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Willingness to travel to field sites across Afghanistan and work in outdoor environments accompanied by a Mahram . Commitment to occupational health, safety, environmental standards, and continuous professional development.
