Role summary
The Tax & Compliance Assistant will support the company's tax compliance activities in accordance with applicable Afghanistan tax laws and regulations. The role will cover payroll tax, withholding tax, tax documentation, branch compliance, reconciliations, reporting, and coordination with relevant tax authorities . The successful candidate will work closely with the HR, Procurement, and Finance teams to ensure tax obligations are accurately calculated, documented, reported, and paid on time.
Duties and responsibilities
1. Tax Compliance ● Ensure compliance with applicable Afghanistan tax laws and regulations. ● Prepare and submit required tax returns, declarations, and reports on time. ● Maintain accurate tax records and supporting documents. ● Monitor tax regulation updates and inform management of relevant changes. ● Maintain and monitor the tax compliance calendar. 2. Payroll & Salary Tax ● Review monthly payroll for applicable salary tax requirements. ● Calculate and verify employee withholding taxes. ● Maintain accurate employee Tax Identification Number (TIN) records. ● Coordinate with HR and Payroll on employee tax matters. ● Ensure salary taxes are properly recorded, reported, and paid on time. ● Prepare payroll tax reports and supporting schedules. 3. Vendor & Contractor Withholding Tax ● Review vendor, supplier, consultant, and contractor payments for applicable withholding tax. ● Ensure required taxes are deducted before payment. ● Maintain withholding-tax records and supporting documents. ● Reconcile withholding-tax records with accounting and payment records. ● Coordinate with Procurement and on tax requirements for contracts and payments. 4. Tax Authority Coordination ● Coordinate with the Afghanistan Revenue Department (ARD), Mustofiat , and other relevant authorities. ● Prepare documents for tax inspections, reviews, and audits. ● Respond to tax-related queries and official correspondence. ● Follow up on tax assessments, notices, and other communications. ● Maintain organized records of correspondence with tax authorities. 5. Internal Compliance & Reporting ● Maintain proper tax documentation and filing systems. ● Prepare regular tax compliance reports for the HR Manager . ● Identify tax compliance risks and recommend corrective actions. ● Support internal and external audits with required tax documentation. ● Maintain confidentiality of financial and employee information.
Job requirements
● Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field . ● Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in taxation, accounting, payroll, finance, or compliance. ● Strong knowledge of Afghanistan tax laws, regulations, and compliance procedures . ● Practical experience in payroll/salary tax and withholding tax . ● Experience dealing with ARD/Mustofiat or relevant tax authorities is highly preferred. ● Afghanistan Tax Certification is required. ● Experience with companies operating across multiple branches is preferred. ● Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP systems . ● Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills. ● Excellent documentation and record-keeping abilities. ● Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work independently. ● High level of integrity, accuracy, confidentiality, and attention to detail .
