Role summary
Refah Al Alami Trading Consultancy Services is seeking a qualified and experienced Legal Officer to manage the company’s legal affairs in Afghanistan and provide legal support for customer disputes, government matters, contracts, employment issues, litigation, and other legal requirements. The successful candidate will act as an authorized representative of the company, where legally permitted, before relevant government departments, courts, authorities, and other institutions, and will work closely with management and internal departments to protect the company’s legal and commercial interests.
Duties and responsibilities
1. Customer Claims & Dispute Management Handle and investigate customer complaints, claims, disputes, and legal notices. Review customer claims and prepare appropriate legal responses and documentation. Represent and defend the company in customer-related disputes and proceedings, where legally permitted. Coordinate with external lawyers and legal counsel when specialized representation is required. Maintain proper records of all claims, disputes, cases, notices, and legal correspondence. Advise management on legal risks and recommended actions relating to customer disputes. 2. Court & Government Representation Represent the company before relevant government departments, courts, authorities, committees, and other official institutions, within the scope permitted by law. Follow up on company legal matters with government authorities, including commercial, administrative, licensing, regulatory, and other relevant matters. Prepare applications, official letters, legal responses, statements, authorizations, and supporting documentation. Attend hearings, meetings, investigations, and official proceedings on behalf of the company when authorized. Maintain effective communication with government legal and regulatory offices. 3. Contract Management Draft, review, revise, and negotiate customer contracts and service agreements. Review contracts with suppliers, agents, business partners, contractors, and other third parties. Prepare and review employment agreements, confidentiality agreements, undertakings, powers of attorney, and other legal documents. Ensure company contracts are commercially practical and provide appropriate legal protection. Identify contractual risks, liabilities, penalties, indemnities, dispute resolution provisions, and termination rights. Maintain an organized database of company contracts and legal documents. 4. Employment & HR Legal Matters Advise HR and management on employment-related legal matters. Review employment contracts, disciplinary notices, termination documents, employee undertakings, and other HR documents. Support the company in handling employee disputes and employment-related claims. Ensure employment documentation and procedures are aligned with applicable Afghan laws and regulations. Advise management on legal risks related to employee relations and workplace matters. 5. Corporate & Office Legal Matters Provide day-to-day legal advice to management and departments. Review company policies, procedures, SOPs, forms, notices, and official communications from a legal perspective. Support company registration, licensing, permits, powers of attorney, and other corporate legal requirements. Identify potential legal risks in company operations and recommend preventive measures. Ensure important legal documents are properly prepared, executed, filed, and maintained. 6. Legal Compliance & Risk Management Monitor relevant Afghan laws, regulations, government instructions, and regulatory requirements affecting RATCS’s business. Inform management of significant legal or regulatory changes. Establish procedures to reduce legal exposure and improve compliance. Conduct legal reviews of new business activities, products, services, and operational arrangements. Support internal investigations and legal risk assessments when required. 7. Legal Documentation & Reporting Maintain confidential and accurate records of all legal cases, claims, contracts, government correspondence, and legal proceedings. Prepare regular reports for management on ongoing legal matters and potential risks. Track deadlines for court cases, legal notices, contracts, licenses, responses, and government submissions. Ensure timely escalation of critical legal matters to management.
Job requirements
Qualifications & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B.) or equivalent legal qualification. Valid legal practice/license or professional authorization in Afghanistan, where required for the position. 3–5 years of relevant legal experience, preferably with a commercial company, international organization, law firm, logistics company, trading company, or similar business. Proven experience handling customer disputes, contracts, government matters, and legal cases. Experience in commercial and employment law is highly desirable. Court representation and litigation experience will be a strong advantage. Experience dealing with Afghan government authorities and regulatory departments is preferred. Strong understanding of Afghan commercial, civil, labor, and relevant regulatory laws. Skills & Competencies Strong legal research, analysis, and drafting skills. Excellent negotiation and dispute-resolution skills. Ability to assess legal risks and provide practical business-oriented advice. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to deal professionally with government officials, customers, employees, lawyers, and business partners. High level of confidentiality, integrity, and professional ethics. Strong documentation and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple legal matters simultaneously. Good English and Dari/Pashto communication skills. Strong computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office and document management. Preferred Candidate The ideal candidate should be more than a traditional legal adviser. Refah Al Alami Trading Consultancy Services is looking for a hands-on legal professional who can manage day-to-day legal matters, defend the company’s interests, handle customer disputes, communicate directly with government authorities, review contracts, and provide practical legal solutions to management and departments. Experience in the automotive, logistics, shipping, import/export, trading, or transportation sector will be considered an advantage.
