Role summary
The Site Engineer (Electrical) is responsible for supervising, monitoring and managing all electrical works at the project site in accordance with the approved drawing, specification and safety standard; inspect materials and equipment upon delivery; ensuring installation, testing, and commissioning of all electrical and electronic equipment and other relevant activities are carried out at the project stie
Duties and responsibilities
Inspect materials and equipment upon delivery to the site and verify that they are in good condition Ensure that all installation works are in compliance with approved drawings, scope of work, technical specifications, and project standards Ensure compliance with technical specifications and standard Monitor installation of major equipment such as, power transformers, circuit breakers, disconnectors/isolators, current transformers (CTs) and voltage transformers (VTs), surge arresters and other equipment that are not listed here Ensure proper alignment, leveling, and tightening as per specifications Supervise installation of busbars and gantry works Supervise cable installation and termination Monitor earthing and grounding system Supervise installation of protection panels and control panels Ensure securing and sealing an electrical cable, termination, and labeling of cables Verify cable routing against approved drawings Monitor conductor and earth wire (OPGW/ground wire) stringing Ensure proper sag and tension as per approved sag charts Supervise installation of insulators, spacers, dampers, and fittings Ensure protection of conductors during pulling (no damage) Ensure statutory clearances from ground, roads, buildings, and crossings Monitor safe working distances and compliance with HV safety standards Supervise continuity and insulation testing Witness tower footing resistance (earthing) tests Conduct inspections and ensure quality assurance of all electrical works in general Witness pre-commissioning and commissioning tests per the specifications, such as; insulation resistance (IR) tests, transformer testing (ratio, oil tests, etc.), circuit breaker timing tests, protection relay testing, HV transmission line and other testing as per the requirements Enforce high-voltage safety procedures and permit-to-work systems Participate in site meetings and progress reviews Ensure safe clearances and lockout/tagout (LOTO) practices Monitor compliance with HSE standards Maintain inspection records and test reports Record all project-related matters, issues, constraints affecting work progress, safety/environmental issues and incident, observations, reasons for delay (late materials, power failure, late payment, etc.); work stoppages with reason(s), social and security issues. deficiencies, delay and other relevant issue in the log-book Maintain daily logs, installation records, and test documentation Process, sign and record Job Measurement Certificate (JMC) and Material Receiving Certificate (MRC) at the site level Prepare and provide daily, weekly and monthly progress reports and share them with the Project Manager Monitor project progress and report any delays or issues to the Project Manager; Report unsafe conditions and ensure corrective measures Raise Non-Compliance Report(s) (NCRs) for non-conforming HSE to the Project Manager if not resolved at the site Assist in handover of entire electrical systems of substation and HV transmission line at the end of the project
Job requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is mandatory; Master degree in the relevant fields is preferable Professional certifications (if any) are an advantage Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant experience in electrical site engineering Experience in construction of power (high voltage transmission line and substation) projects is preferred Strong knowledge of electrical systems and installation practices Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics Good project management and coordination skills Problem-solving and decision-making ability Proficiency in MS Office, and working knowledge Primavera and relevant contract/project management tools Fluency in written and spoken English is required; knowledge of local languages is a plus Good communication and reporting skills Familiarity with safety standards and regulations
