Job Summary CHILD SAFEGUARDING: Level 3: The post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process of staff. ROLE PURPOSE: We are seeking a motivated Software Development Intern to join our team. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals beginning their career in software development to gain practical, hands-on experience in application development, understand the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), and contribute to real-world projects. SCOPE OF ROLE: Reports to: IT Coordinator- Application Development & Enterprise Solution Indirect Report: N/A Staff reporting to this post: None Close working relationships: IT Team in Country Office Budget Responsibilities: None KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY: Under the overall guidance of the IT Coordinator – Application Development & Enterprise Solutions, the Intern will be involved in the following key tasks to learn, practice, and perform: • Assist in designing, developing, documenting, and maintaining software applications. • Contribute to front-end design and user interface development, ensuring a user-friendly experience. • Collaborate with the development team to implement features and fixes. • Participate in the full SDLC, including requirements gathering, design, coding, testing, and deployment. • Write clean, maintainable code and documentation. • Participate in code reviews and team discussions. • Learn and apply coding best practices, development tools, and agile methodologies. • Support knowledge transfer within the team. Integrity: • Honest, encourages openness and transparency; demonstrates highest levels of integrity Job Requirements QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (Fresh Graduates are welcome) EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS Essential No prior formal work experience • The candidate should have foundational knowledge of application development • Candidates who have some practical initiative as volunteer experience contributing to a tech-related project or personal projects (apps, websites, tools, prototypes) created independently or as part of academic coursework will be preferred. • Basic understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC). • Strong problem-solving, learning agility, and teamwork skills. • Good self-starter with effective time management skills • Strong skills in coordinating and collaborating with others • Positive, solution-driven, respectful, and with a “can-do” attitude • Good communication and interpersonal skills Desireable • Understanding of Software Engineering principles • Familiarity with Laravel and Vue.js, including front-end component design • Knowledge of databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) • Basic understanding of UI/UX principles and front-end design Additional job responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities as set out above are not exhaustive and the role holder may be required to carry out additional duties within reasonableness of their level of skills and experience.
