Climate Change Expert – Consultant

Role summary The Climate Change Expert – Consultant will be responsible for providing specialized technical guidance and strategic advice on climate-related issues throughout project development and implementation. This role requires deep expertise in climate change, environmental science, and sustainable development, along with strong coordination and analytical skills. The expert will serve as a key technical resource for the organization, ensuring that climate considerations are integrated into project designs, environmental risk assessments, and compliance frameworks. They will collaborate closely with project teams, local stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to promote environmental sustainability, resilience, and adherence to local and international standards. The Climate Change Expert will also conduct environmental screenings, develop recommendations, and establish monitoring frameworks to safeguard environmental standards across all project activities. Duties and responsibilities · Provide ongoing technical consultations and coordinate with the DACAAR organization to ensure climate change considerations are integrated into all stages of WASH project design and implementation. · Conduct comprehensive environmental screenings in all project areas to identify potential environmental risks and develop mitigation strategies prior to project commencement. · Develop and present technical recommendations, solutions, and best practices to project teams, ensuring alignment with climate resilience and environmental standards. · Establish and maintain regular monitoring frameworks to ensure ongoing compliance with environmental protection standards based on local regulations and international best practices. · Collaborate with project staff, local authorities, and stakeholders to promote climate adaptation and environmental sustainability throughout project activities. · Prepare detailed reports, technical documentation, and presentations to communicate findings, risks, and recommendations to senior management and project partners. · Any other tasks assigned to him by senior management. Job requirements 1. Education · Bachelor’s degree in Climate Change, Water Resources Management, and Environmental science. · Master’s degree is an advantage. 2. Work Experience · A minimum of 7 years of Consultation experience in Climate Change, Environmental Science, Water Resources Management, or related fields. · Extensive experience in climate change adaptation, environmental assessments, and sustainable WASH project implementation. · Proven ability to develop educational and awareness materials tailored to community needs. 3. Soft Skills · Excellent communication and negotiation skills in both English and local languages (Dari/Pashto). · Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. · Ability to work effectively with government agencies, donors, contractors, and communities.
