Role summary
The Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the climate change and environmentally safe project, from planning and design to implementation and completion. This role requires strong technical expertise in Climate Change, Agriculture, Water Engineering, and Environmental Science, along with exceptional leadership and coordination skills. The Project Manager will serve as the primary liaison between the organization, government agencies, local communities, environmental experts, and international partners, ensuring project activities align with environmental standards and climate adaptation goals. They will coordinate multidisciplinary teams, manage budgets and timelines, and promote community engagement and capacity building to achieve sustainable, scalable outcomes. This position demands proactive problem-solving, strategic planning, and effective communication to foster climate resilience and environmental sustainability.
Duties and responsibilities
· Develop comprehensive project plans including scope, schedule, budget, and resource allocation, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and climate resilience objectives. · Apply strong technical expertise in Climate Change, Agriculture, Water Engineering, and Environmental Science to inform project design and implementation. · Coordinate with government agencies, local communities, environmental experts, and international partners to ensure project activities meet environmental standards and climate adaptation goals. · Manage multidisciplinary teams, oversee project execution, monitor progress, and implement corrective actions to address any delays, issues, or risks. · Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and organizational policies throughout all project phases. · Facilitate effective communication and collaboration between stakeholders, including local communities, government bodies, and partner organizations. · Promote community engagement, capacity building, and ensure project sustainability to achieve scalable and long-term impacts. · Prepare regular progress reports, technical documentation, and financial updates for stakeholders and senior management. · Provide weekly and monthly report to executive director. · Any other tasks assigned to him by senior management.
Job requirements
1. Education · Bachelor’s degree in Climate Change, Agriculture, Water Engineering, and Environmental science. · Master’s degree or Project Management certification (e.g., PMP/PRINCE2) is an advantage. 2. Work Experience · A minimum of 3-7 years of project management experience in Climate Change, Water Engineering, Environmental Science and other related development and agriculture interventions in Afghanistan. · Familiarity with the local socio-political context of the project focus on income generation activities in Afghanistan. 3. Project Management Skills · Demonstrated ability to plan, monitor, and deliver projects within scope, time, and budget. · Strong financial management skills, including budgeting and invoice preparation. · Experience in contract administration and stakeholder coordination. 4. Soft Skills · Excellent communication and negotiation skills in both English and local languages (Dari/Pashto). · Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. · Ability to work effectively with government agencies, donors, contractors, and communities. · High level of integrity, accountability, and commitment to quality and safety.
