Role summary
Implement Health Promotion/IEC (Information, Education, Communication) activities with patients and local population to raise their knowledge and skills on relevant medical topics.
Duties and responsibilities
Task and Responsibilities • Inform patients and communities about MSF and services it provides. • According to medical priorities, deliver information to the patients and community on specific health topics • Implement activities of health education and awareness (sessions in schools, churches, community), under the indications and supervision of the HP Supervisor. • Under the guide of HP Supervisor, assess the impact of activities (with questions, verifications and behaviors observations), and report problems, success and constraints to him/her. • Collect all type of information related to specific health and living conditions of the population, in particular to identify the most vulnerable populations to target. • Report to HP Supervisor: activities, problems met, strengths and constraints. • For OCBA: Establish and maintain contacts with social partners, including other NGO’s, governmental health services that can provide answers to social problems. • For OCBA: Keep education and communication areas clean and tidy and professional materials available. • For OCBA:Participate in creation of any material needed for the activities of information, education and communication. MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities General § Implement health promotion activities according to the health promotion strategy and broader medical strategy at Kunduz Trauma Centre, with a focus on providing therapeutic patient education on early-mobilisation following trauma-related injuries, management of wounds and rehabilitation, safe-medication use and prevention of antimicrobial resistance, promotion of blood donation, among other topics. § Apply participatory methodologies in health promotion that effectively listen to the experiences and perspectives of patients and caretakers, while focusing on elevating the confidence and empowering patients. § Apply a patient-centred approach in all activities, including contributing to the cyclical patient and community feedback cycle, creating opportunities for patients to provide suggestions and solutions and ensure good access to health information for patients and relevant resources (for example, access to translators). § Assess the impact of activities with questions, verifications and behaviours, observations as well as implemented monitoring tools, including patient experience surveys, message understanding surveys and treatment understanding surveys. § Contribute to context analysis, including stakeholder and actor mapping as well as needs assessments and rapid qualitative assessments that will include the collection of quantitative and qualitative data (interviews, focus group discussions) § Contribute to community engagement activities such as facilitating meetings and workshop with community stakeholders (elders, religious leaders, business owners, pharmacists, community health workers) Team work and Coorporation § Communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, caretakers and families. § Working collaboratively with nurses, doctors, and other healthcare professionals to deliver quality care. § Engaging in team meetings and share observations whenever necessary Infection Prevention and Control § Observe standard precautions and 3 Pillars of IPC “Hand Hygiene, Disinfection and Transmission Based precaution” accordingly. § Address concerns realted to IPC in collaboration with the IPC supervisor and respond accordingly. § Ensure good teamwork with medical team and observed schedule of their activities. Documentation § Ensure that documentation is properly done – data, Cobo inputs, logbooks and monitoring system. § Ensure quality of data encoded an discuss with the Supervisor and team members Reporting § Actively participate in necessary meetings and provide reports in timely manner.
Job requirements
Minimum Requirements and Competencies Education • Education level in social science, social communication, nurse or teaching - Desirable Experience • Preferable previous experience in teaching, nursing or social work, community mobilization (at least two years). Languages • Local language essential. (Pashto and Dari). • English language - Desirable.
